Home Security – How To Protect Your Home

A banner featuring 3 photographs. The first is a close up of a window lock and handle, the second is a photo of a lock and key and the third is a photo of a brick porch at the front of a home.

Home is the place where you make treasured memories with your family and loved ones. National Home Security Month takes place every October to highlight the importance of preventative measures – not only to protect physical possessions from burglary – but to also provide comfort in knowing your home and the memories within it are safe and secure.

Triple Glazing

Triple Glazing security can be significantly more secure than single glazing and even double-glazing. The extra pane of glass ensures that your windows are less easy to break because of the toughened glass, which in turn, offers you more peace of mind and security.

Another reason  triple glazing offers such a superior level of security is due to the frames’ steel reinforcement.

Internally Beaded

The glazing in your windows is held in place by a special strip called a bead. Many years ago, the original uPVC windows had the beads on the outside of the frame, making it easy for burglars to remove it, pop the double glazed unit out and gain entry to your property!

All of our Staywarm Energy windows are internally beaded, meaning that an intruder would already have to be inside the house to remove the beads and glazing.

Multi Locking Points

Multi point locks are considered one of the most secure locking systems available, firmly deterring burglars when they realise the type of locking system they’re up against.

Multi point locks create a tight, weatherproof seal, keeping your home warm and dry too!

Key Lockable Handles

Older windows would only have window catches, but these are vulnerable to being easily opened by an intruder. All new window handles are now key-operated as standard with varying degrees of lock quality.

Our Staywarm Energy windows all come with multi-point locking systems as standard.

We are also able to include lockable ventilation and night vents to your bespoke order.

Laminated Glass

For homes and areas where high security is a priority, we can make up our double or triple glazing with a special laminated sheet to reinforce the glass.

The laminated sheet is created and installed in the unit with similar technology to how car windscreens are made!

Laminated glazing is the strongest and most break-in-proof glazing we offer.

Encapsulating Leaded & Stained Glass

Leaded and stained glass windows are common on homes in the UK, especially older properties, yet single glazed leaded windows are the least secure windows. Burglars can easily bend the soft lead and remove the small sections of glass to gain entry to your home.

Our stained and leaded glass encapsulation service includes restoring the original pane and enclosing it inside a triple glazed unit, with toughened, laminated glass on either side.

By the simple fact that it has 3 full panes of glass, triple glazing is much harder to break into than single or double glazing. Just the sight of triple glazed windows can act as a powerful burglar-deterrent.

Our Staywarm Energy triple glazed windows are internally beaded for extra security, just like our fabulous double glazed window styles

3-star Diamond Sold Secure Cylinder

The 3-star Diamond Sold Secure Cylinder is one of the most secure key-operated locks in the industry.

Thanks to this 3-star rating (the very best rating a cylinder can achieve) our lock cylinders are completely burglar proof meaning they can’t be bumped, drilled or snapped – the most common ways burglars try to gain entry into a property.

Secured By Design Police Specification

Secured by Design is the official police backed security initiative to encourage manufacturers to put safety at the forefront of homes, businesses and properties alike, whilst giving homeowners a security accreditation for extra peace of mind.

Almost every Rockdoor is able to meet Secured by Design status, including French Doors and Double Doors.

Steel Security Mesh Through The Sash

The steel security mesh is an extra, added layer of protection to make a Rockdoor, that is already the most secure composite door available on the UK market, even more secure.

The doors also have a reinforced inner frame that is 60% stronger than a standard composite door. This means a Rockdoor cannot be rammed and forced open.

The Door That Beat The Bobbies!

In 2004 Rockdoor grabbed the headlines with ‘Door that Beat the Bobbies’. The police were unable to gain access despite their best efforts including attempting to smash through the door with their battering rams.

Rockdoors are made to measure, never cut to fit as this can weaken the door and compromise the security and strength features
